Available Positions

We love working with people who are passionate about what they do and want to make meaningful contributions to other people’s lives. Each of our volunteers is deeply precious to us.

We want to make sure that your time commitment is fulfilling, and in line with the rest of your life.

Community Ambassador

10 hours / month
Community Ambassadors help present The Information Center to businesses in the community. Ambassadors help raise awareness and funds.
  • Connect with community businesses and foster relationships with them
  • Facilitate tax-deductible business donations
  • Educate community members and businesses on opportunities to get involved and support the work of The Information Center
  • Optionally, give presentations on The Information Center or its events, in person or online.

Intern Volunteer Coordinator

10-15 hours / week with the opportunity to turn into a part time or full time job
  • Help us locate and inspire new volunteers to fill volunteer positions
  • Train volunteers for new positions, or help coordinate the right person to train them
  • Collaborate with schools and colleges to coordinate task instructors and hour requirements for internships
  • Manage the schedule of volunteers and ensure each volunteer's responsibility is filled

Social Media Coordination

5-10 hours / month
  • Post regular content to social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc)
  • Optionally, write content for social media, or coordinate with our team to create content
  • Reach out to potential guest bloggers and ask them to write for our team
  • Optional skills in graphic design. You can use our templates or create your own designs in line with our brand guidelines.

Assistant Volunteer Shopper & Distributor

5 hours / month
Do you love shopping and having the opportunity to give to those in need? We’re in need of seasonal shopping for seniors.
  • Research online to find cost-effective, high-quality products to buy
  • Coordinate with printers and distributors to print bulk branded products
  • Optionally drive to distribute gifts to individual households

Assistant Volunteer Event Coordination

5 hours / month
If you enjoy organization and have good people skills, this would be a great way for you to help serve people in need in your community.
  • Attend planning meetings and take notes
  • Make phone calls to vendors, sponsors, or attendees
  • Optionally attend in-person events and provide service to event attendees
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite or Google Docs

Our Mission & Values

The Information Center is a private, non-profit organization that provides information and referral services to residents of southeast Michigan. Our mission is to connect people in need with human resource services that can solve their needs and improve their lives. The Information Center has been empowering people in our community since 1975.

Our services extend to parents, seniors, pregnant women, job seekers, and more. Each person helped by The Information Center is deeply important to us, and our staff strives to provide a high level of service with every call. In 2020 alone, The Information Center handled 222,729 calls, and referred or provided 511 total care management services.
