For over 50 years, we’ve helped Wayne County seniors, families, students, and community members find the care and support they deserve.

Our Mission and Values
The Information Center is a private, non-profit organization that provides information and referral services to residents of southeast Michigan. Our mission is to connect people in need with human resource services that can solve their needs and improve their lives. The Information Center has been empowering people in our community since 1975.
Our services extend to parents, seniors, pregnant women, job seekers, and more. Each person helped by The Information Center is deeply important to us, and our staff strives to provide a high level of service with every call.

Our Story
What started as a small office cutting through red tape has grown into one of Wayne County’s most trusted community resources.
NCQA Accreditation
We're proud to share that The Information Center earned a full three-year NCQA Accreditation for our Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) program. It's a milestone that means a lot to our team — it reflects the hard work we've put into raising the bar for quality, person-centered care. We're grateful for the trust our community places in us, and this accreditation is our way of showing we take that trust seriously.
50 Years
The Information Center celebrated 50 years of community service on June 18th! A celebration at The Bentley Banquet & Conference Center in Wyandotte, MI was attended by dignitaries, community leaders & partners, former CEO's and our founders! It was a night to remember!
Beth Grant named President and CEO
Information Center President and CEO, Edward D'Angelo retires in April after 15 years with the agency. The Information Center Board hires Beth Grant as President and CEO in June.
AIRS Accreditation
The Information Center was awarded accreditation by the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) for the fourth consecutive term since being the first organization in the State of Michigan to receive this distinction in 2003.
NCQA Accreditation
The Information Center is accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
Ribbon Cutting Ceremoney
On Thursday, June 16, 2016, The Information Center hosted an open house to celebrate its new location and 41st anniversary of serving the community. Founders, agency partners, and city officials attended the evening event.
40th Anniversary
TIC celebrated 40 years of community service on Thursday, June 18, 2015. Partners and supporters of The Information Center were invited to toast our 40th anniversary while enjoying light refreshments.
Community Transitions Program Begins
The Community Transitions Program, funded by the Michigan Department of Community Health, begins. This program allows seniors and people with disabilities to transition from nursing homes back into the community.
AIRS Accreditation
TIC becomes the first organization in Michigan to receive accreditation from the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS).
Waiver Contract Awarded
The Michigan Department of Community Health awards a Medicaid Waiver program contract to TIC. This program allows seniors and people with disabilities to stay in their homes longer.
SEMCA Partnership
A contract to open an Employment Hotline is entered into with the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance.
Pioneering Care Management
The Information Center is designated as one of two sites for a model demonstration project on "Case Management".
An Agency Is Born
On June 18th, the Downriver Citizens Information and Referral Office is incorporated to cut bureaucratic red tape and aid people in gaining access to public services.

Questions about The Information Center
The Information Center is a nonprofit organization in Taylor, Michigan that helps seniors, people with disabilities, families, and community members find care, housing, jobs, and other support. We’ve been serving Wayne County since 1975.
We connect people to free programs and resources, including in-home care for seniors (MI Choice Waiver), help moving from a nursing facility back home (CTS), job search support (Michigan WORKS!), student assistance (SAP), and community referrals for housing, food, utilities, and more.
Yes. All of our programs and services are free to the people we serve.
Most of our programs serve Wayne County, including Downriver communities like Taylor, Southgate, Lincoln Park, Romulus, and more. Our Options Counseling program (PCOC) serves the entire Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
We were founded in 1975 and celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2025.
